You know the story of the three wise men. But have you heard the story of the two busy bodies?

Still harvest season here.

Couldn't pass up an open farmer's market.

Apples For Cobbler.

Just couldn't pass up a good deal.

Thee dollars for a pile of chritmas tree trimmings. We just had to have em,

The Package Store

Because "Liquor" just sounds evil, Down here it's "Package" store. We live in the middle of a dry county so a Package store is a twenty mile drive any direction, Lucky I gave it up but I need it for cooking and the girls wanted wine, so a beautiful fall drive to Palmetto with the ladies. I really think that Coweta county is dry because the moonshiners have a really powerful lobby group but that's niether here nor there. Package stores do know their customers here vey well. Because package stores are magnets for inebriated patrons, let's sink rail road rails deep in conctrete in front of the store in case they think it's a drive through.

Thank you God

Good food with good friends. Is there anything better?

Cooking and carving.

Yep, they grow em big down here.

What a find on turkey day!

A walk through Oak Hill Cemetery

Went out for a walk on this beautiful fall day. Ended up at the very old and very large Oak Hill Cemetery. Many confederate soldiers burried here.

Fallen at the battle of Kennesaw Mountain

Say what you will about the cause for which they fought, this guy had courage. Sherman had kicked their ass all the way from Tennessee and they took their stand north of Atlanta at Kennesaw Mountain. They lost but at a great cost to the union army. But this battle broke the back of the confederate army guarding the industrial giant of Atlanta.

Georgia is a state of proud fighters from way back.

This gentleman fought in the indian wars.

Time and pressure.

This stone slab has been laying here 150 years. When layed it was as straight as an arrow. It has slowly begun to sag under its own weight yet not broken.

Still proud of their colors.

Many sacrificed all for this flag.

Today's Menu

10 pound turkey on the Big Green Egg Grill
Julia Childs Au Gratin Potatoes
Apple Pecan Stuffing (see recipe below)
Fresh Corn on the Cob. (still available here)
Home Made Apple Brandy Pie

Just see if you can top this babycakes.

Southern Nights

Our friend Karen has had a rough day, Slept untill ten, lollygagged until noon, lunch until one, shopping until five, dinner, bad movie and fresh baked apple pie. Poor girl is just plum wore out. Southern living will take time to adjust to. It is not for the faint of heart.

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Our good friend Karen just arrived and will be with us a HOEL week.

She said that the flight was smooth and that she was not groped by the TSA at the airport. She said she was very disappointed.

I am posting this to irritate my brother in law. He is not a believer.

Mike the Headless Chicken (April 1945 – March 1947), also known as Miracle Mike, was a chicken that lived for 18 months after his head had been mostly cut off. Thought by many to be a hoax, the bird was taken by his owner to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City to establish its authenticity.

Intestinal Fortitude Anyone?

On August 16, 1960, Joseph W. Kittinger made a high altitude jump from the Excelsior III at 102,800 feet (31,300 m). The project was research into high altitude bailouts. He made a series of three extreme altitude parachute jumps from an open gondola carried aloft by large helium balloons. Towing a small drogue parachute for initial stabilization, he fell for four minutes and 36 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 614 miles per hour before opening his parachute at 18,000 feet. Pressurization for his right glove malfunctioned during the ascent, and his right hand swelled up to twice its normal size. He set historical numbers for highest balloon ascent, highest parachute jump, longest drogue-fall (four minutes), and fastest speed by a human being through the atmosphere. I believe it is still the record. Oh, and he is still alive at 82 years old. This dude had guts.

Trouble motivating people to give this holiday season?

Well here is what Mikey Jacobs did to motivate people to give to Operation Christmas Child. Promised to shave his head and leave a company logo. Dude, that is messed up! I'll give next year if you promise not to do this again.

I just like this old house.

Tin roofs are common down here. They last a long time and more importantly, people love the sound it makes when it rains. When you endure heat like this down here, the sound of rain on the roof is the sound of relief. Also notice the corner porch with the witches hat. Too cool.

I just like old barns.

This one has seen some years.

SCORE!

Found some pine tree trimmings along the road in Pine Mtn of all places. Who knew? Can you say "free christmas decorations" anyone?

What is wrong with these people?

Don't they know this is CoCola country? Yeah that's right, down here it's not Coca Cola, it's CoCola.

Butts Mill Farm

Go ahead. Say it three times fast and not laugh. I double dawg dare ya.

One of our favorite lunch spots.

Eddie Mae Gunn's at Pine Mtn. Good fried chicken. That's Phyllis standing behind our new rig.

A curious southern custom.

Two pennies in a bag of water hung over the door to keep out the flies. Well? I didn't see any flies inside.

Lots of color still.

Blazing red. Phyllis took off her shoes and went looking for stone tablets. Don't know what that was all about.

Turkey Day is almost here.

I swerved to hit one but they were too quick.

The Butcher Block

This place made me a believer in Southern cuisine. Great fried chicken. Outdoor dining. The dog out front is always happy to clean up after you.

One of our favorite spots.

A farmers market in Woodbury Georgia. Phyllis bought some apples that we used to make apple pie. It was delicious.

Holloween Leftovers

Passed by today in Greenville. Made from two bails of hay. I thought round bails were outlawed since cows didn't get a square meal.

Little known fact. We live on the Civil War battle field site of the Battle of Brown's Mill.

This marker sits down on the corner of Millard Farmer Road. Back then it was called Rickety Back Road. Cool name for a road huh? They are still finding artifacts there. Last year someone dug up a cannon ball. They plan to turn this area into a park. Cool! Oh by the way, the confedrates won this battle.. We are  going exploring today. Will post our discoveries later. Happy Saturday.

Passed by the famous Barbie Beach in Turin, Ga. this morning. They were still set up for Veterans' Day. I don't know what the Barbie Beach is all about. Free speech I think. I am for free speech too, especially this kind. One time I glanced over while passing by and could swear I saw naked Barbie and naked Ken in a compromising position. Well not that kind of free speech so much, But carry on the fight Barbie Beach people whoever you are.

Bulldog Fever

People told us before we moved south that people down here "like their football". Like! Yeah! And Jeffrey Dahmer had a "little eating disorder". Well? GO DAWGS!

AAHHH! The Big Green Egg grill.

Sometimes I need positive reinforcement. So Phyllis bought me a sign. Who is king of the grill?

The weekend at last!

Sometimes I forget what Saturday is for. So I put up a big sign on the shed to remind me.

Wake up!

Hello!, from Georgia. We are starting a blog as you can see. You don't have to understand anything about Jobu to enjoy this sight. If you really want to know more about Jobu, just go rent the movie Major League and watch it. Or buy it, it's becoming a cult classic. Not that we, in anyway condone or condemn cults because we live in America and we don't wish to offend.... Anyway, we plan lots of stuff for this sight so check back. Cooking tips, recipes, movie suggestions, good quotes, did you know? thoughts, discussions, all kinds of stuff and then some. So what exactly is this blog about? Well, three words: Anything and everything. Clear it up any? Oh yeah, no sports and no politics but other than that anything and everything. OH! and no nastiness that's a rule.
